When your dermatologist issues your prescription, it will include a few refills. When you run out of medication, simply log in to your Miiskin account and order your medication. If you ran out of the refills prescribed by your dermatologist, you can select Request medication refill visit and start the consultation process. This time the price of your consultation will only be $30 – $39.

What are compounded dermatology medications?

Compounded dermatology medications are personalized prescription treatments that may combine up to five active ingredients selected by your dermatologist for your specific skin or hair condition. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy, in the case of Miiskin specifically, by Foothills pharmacy.

Compounded medications have been used in dermatology for many years and remain a common option for personalized skin and hair treatment. Dermatologists may recommend compounded medications when commercially available products are not the best fit for a patient’s needs.

Because compounded medications are customized, they allow dermatologists to combine multiple active ingredients into one formula, adjust strengths, and personalize treatment plans based on an individual patient’s skin concerns.

This approach is commonly used for conditions such as:

  • Acne
  • Melasma
  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Hair loss
  • Anti-aging concerns

Dermatology publications have also noted that compounded medications may help simplify skincare routines by combining several prescription ingredients into a single treatment.3

The use of personalized dermatology treatments has continued to grow alongside teledermatology and online skincare services. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has publicly supported dermatologist access to compounded medications, recognizing that customized treatments can help address patient needs that may not be met by commercially available products.4

At Miiskin, compounded medications are prescribed by board-certified dermatologists and fulfilled through our trusted partner pharmacy, Foothills Pharmacy.

Why dermatologists prescribe compounded medications

Your dermatologist may recommend a compounded medication when standard medications are not the best fit for you.

Compounded treatments may help when:

  • Previous treatments have not delivered desired results
  • Multiple products are needed in one routine
  • Commercial medications are too irritating

Because compounded medications are personalized, they may provide a more customized approach to skincare treatment.

Why do patients choose Miiskin to get a prescription for compounded dermatology medications?

Miiskin helps you access personalized prescription medications from home.

With Miiskin, patients can:

  • Connect online with board-certified dermatologists
  • Receive a treatment plan that includes a compounded or FDA-approved treatment, depending on your preference
  • Get your compounded medication delivered directly to their home

Our goal is to make expert dermatology care more convenient and personalized.

Are compounded dermatology medications FDA-approved?

Compounded dermatology medications are not FDA-approved as a specific finished product. This is because compounded treatments are personalized formulas created for an individual patient and are not reviewed by the FDA as one standardized medication.

However, compounding is a well-established and commonly used practice in medicine. When a compounded medication is prescribed by a board-certified dermatologist and prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy, it is generally considered safe and appropriate for many patients.

It is also important to understand that many of the individual ingredients used in compounded dermatology medications are FDA-approved medications themselves. In some cases, these ingredients may be commonly prescribed off-label to treat specific skin or hair conditions.

What is not FDA-approved is the exact personalized combination, strength, or formulation created specifically for each patient.

At Miiskin, eligible patients are evaluated by board-certified dermatologists, and prescriptions are fulfilled through our trusted partner pharmacy, Foothills Pharmacy.
