What is Miiskin and what services does it offer?

Miiskin is a teledermatology platform that connects users with independent, board-certified dermatologists who provide care through their private practices. To start a consultation you need to select your state, choose a dermatologist, answer some questions and upload photos of your skin problem. In 1-2 days you will get a diagnosis and treatment plan, all without physically visiting a clinic.

Is Miiskin available nationwide?

Yes, the dermatologists in the Miiskin network cover all  50 states, ensuring you can access care anywhere in the U.S. whether you’re in New York or a small town in Montana.

What is the price of an online consultation via Miiskin?

The consultation price may vary a bit depending on the dermatologist you are consulting; however, new‐patient consultations are typically around $59 and prescription renewals around $39.

How long does it usually take to receive a dermatologist’s response or diagnosis?

Most users will receive a treatment plan in 24 hours, however, they should wait up to 48 hours before contacting Miiskin Support. Actual timing may vary depending on the provider’s availability and whether more information or photos are needed.

Can I get a prescription via Miiskin?

Yes, the dermatologists in the Miiskin network have full prescription capability. If medically adequate, they can prescribe oral, topical or compounded medications.

What sets Miiskin apart from other online dermatology platforms?

What skin conditions can be treated through Miiskin’s platform?

The dermatologists in the Miiskin network can offer treatment for a wide variety of conditions ranging from cosmetic concerns such as acne, hair loss, hyperpigmentation and anti-aging to medical conditions such as eczema, fungal infections, herpes, genital warts, skin rashes, hives, and many others.

What is the process from starting an online consultation to receiving treatment?

While details may vary, the typical process involves the following steps:

  • You click start consultation button
  • Select your state, choose your dermatologist, submit a medical questionnaire and upload photos of the affected skin area.
  • It takes 24–48 hours for your chosen dermatologist to review the case and provide a treatment plan.
  • Once you get your treatment plan you can buy your medication at the pharmacy you had your prescription sent. 
  • If you have questions about your treatment, you can write a message to your dermatologist with the messaging functionality in the platform. 

What can I do if I need to ask a question to my dermatologist after they send my treatment plan?

You have 2-3 days to ask your dermatologist any questions after they have sent your treatment plan. You can do this by using the messaging system on the platform. After the 2-3 days have expired, you can send a new message regarding your existing skin problem by paying a $25 fee.

Who can use Miiskin for online consultations?

Anyone in the United States who is over 18 years old can use Miiskin to have an online consultation for common skin problems. Parents can also do online consultations on behalf of their children, with some of the dermatologists in the platform such as Dr. Anna Chacon, Dr. Anne Allen and Dr. Craig Burkhart.

Can you have a video consultation via Miiskin?

Via Miiskin, online consultations are mainly done asynchronously: you submit photos and fill-in a questionnaire; and the dermatologist responds. In some cases you can have a video follow-up, depending on the dermatologist.

Do you need a referral to use Miiskin?

No, since Miiskin uses a cash-pay model, users can initiate a consultation with their preferred dermatologist without needing a referral from their primary care physician. 

Are all Miiskin-affiliated providers board-certified dermatologists?

Yes, one of the things that sets Miiskin’s apart from other online dermatology services is that patients are treated by independent, board-certified dermatologists, not physician assistants or non-specialists.

Do you need to download the Miiskin app to have a consultation?

No, you do not need to download the Miiskin app to have a consultation with a dermatologist. You can simply click any Start Consultation button on the website to get started. If you do want to use the app you can visit the AppStore or Google Play to download the app and follow the instructions.

How does Miiskin ensure patient privacy and data protection for medical photos and records?

Miiskin is compliant with HIPAA and GDPR for data protection. The platform also has encrypted image storage and separation from normal camera roll. As a user, you should confirm the privacy policy, encryption standard, where data is stored, and how long records are retained.

Are Miiskin consultations covered by insurance?

No, consultations made via Miiskin are not covered by insurance. However the price for the virtual consultation (between $55 to $69) is often cheaper than copay you would need to pay if you visited an in-person dermatologist through your insurance (around $75).
