Why is Apostrophe skincare being discontinued?

Apostrophe, a teledermatology platform specializing in personalized skincare treatments for conditions like acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation, was abruptly shut down by its parent company, Hims & Hers, on March 7, 2025.

Acquired in 2021, Apostrophe operated independently under Hims & Hers until its closure. The company cited a desire to “simplify its dermatology products and operations into one seamless experience” as the reason for discontinuing Apostrophe.

The shutdown left many customers without access to their provider teams and patient accounts, which were deactivated 30 days after the announcement.

What was Apostrophe famous for?

Apostrophe gained recognition as a teledermatology platform that provided personalized, prescription-strength skincare treatments for conditions such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and signs of aging. The service allowed users to complete online consultations, which were reviewed by licensed dermatology providers. Based on these evaluations, Apostrophe prescribed customized topical or oral medications, which were then shipped directly to the user’s home.

Apostrophe’s offerings included compounded topical medications containing active ingredients like tretinoin, azelaic acid, clindamycin, niacinamide, tranexamic acid, tazarotene, and hydroquinone. Sometimes they also provided oral medications such as spironolactone, oral birth control, or antibiotics.

The platform emphasized accessibility and convenience, enabling users to receive expert dermatological care without in-person visits.

What the shutdown means for former Apostrophe patients

If you were previously an Apostrophe skincare patient and are now looking for a new dermatology provider, Miiskin offers a strong alternative. Through the platform, you can consult with independent, board-certified dermatologists who can prescribe similar compounded treatments—when medically appropriate—to those you received from Apostrophe.

While these dermatologists don’t dispense medications directly, they can write prescriptions through Foothills pharmacy, allowing you to buy your medication on-demand, without locking you in a product subscription.

No matter which state you live in, Miiskin has licensed providers available nationwide, ensuring broad access to personalized dermatology care.

Were you a patient of Apostrophe skincare and now you’re wondering what to do next since they shut down? Let’s talk about Miiskin, where you can consult a board-certified dermatologist that can prescribe similar compounded treatments.

I’m Dr. Amit Om, a board-certified dermatologist, and I offer virtual care to my patients via Miiskin.

Why was Apostrophe skincare so popular?

Apostrophe was known for prescription-strength, customized formulas for acne, aging, melasma, rosacea, and hair loss. Each formula could include up to five active ingredients, all in one bottle.

Can I still get a personalized formula?

Yes! Through Miiskin, you can consult a board-certified dermatologist — like myself — in under 5 minutes to request a prescription. Then, you need to wait 1 – 2 days to get an answer from the dermatologist.

If you know the formula you were using, just mention it, and describe how it worked for you during your consult. If the dermatologist thinks it’s appropriate for you, they can prescribe it or tailor something even better.

Remember, the dermatologist may adjust your formula based on your needs and their expertise — that’s the benefit of consulting board-certified dermatologist versus less experienced dermatology providers. We’ve had years of training to help you get the best results.

How will I get my medication?

When you get the prescription from your dermatologist, you will buy your medication directly via a mail-order pharmacy that will ship the medication to you.

Just head over to miiskin.com, and consult a board-certified dermatologist via Miiskin today to get a prescription for personalized skincare.

Can I get via Miiskin the same formula that I use to get from Apostrophe?

How to get the same formula I got prescribed by Apostrophe?
Via Miiskin you can choose an independent, board-certified dermatologist, you want to work with. You can tell them about the formula that was prescribed to you and based on your wishes and your symptoms they will write you a prescription that is suitable for your skin. The price of the online consultation is around $59 and includes a  few medication refills.

Where can I buy my personalized formula?
When completing the clinical questionnaire, select Foothills as your preferred pharmacy.  Once your dermatologist reviews your case and issues a prescription, you can order your customized Foothills formula and request medication refills right on Miiskin.

What is the price of my personalized Foothills formula?
The price of most personalized Foothills formulas is only $48.99, with a few advanced formulas priced at $58.99 and some hair loss formulas priced at $68.99. This price includes a free delivery nation-wide.

Will I get the exact formula I got at Apostrophe?

Your online dermatologist will take your input seriously, but their recommendation comes from advanced medical training and extensive experience caring for all types of skin. Their aim is to choose a treatment that works and supports your skin’s health over time. You can feel confident in their choice, even if it’s not the same formula you requested. They will evaluate your photos and your symptoms and will prescribe the formula they think its best for your skin at this point in time.

FAQ About Apostrophe skincare

Why is my Apostrophe not working?

If you cannot access your Apostrophe login anymore is because the company has shut down. However, you can still get access to the same (or a similar) formula you used to get with Apostrophe via Miiskin.

Why can I not get the exact same formula I got from Apostrophe?

A dermatologist in the Miiskin network may look at the formula you previously received from Apostrophe, but they may not prescribe that exact combination. Miiskin uses board-certified dermatologists who base their decisions on your current skin needs, safety considerations, and what will give you the best long-term results. Even if your Apostrophe formula worked, there are often alternatives that can work just as well (or better) when chosen by a specialist with advanced clinical training. Since Apostrophe did not use board-certified dermatologists, your dermatologist may recommend a different formulation that may be better suited to your skin right now.

Why is Apostrophe skincare being discontinued?

Hims & Hers discontinued Apostrophe in March 2025 to streamline its dermatology offerings and simplify operations under its core “Hims & Hers” brand. Apostrophe, which it acquired in 2021, was shuttered so the company could consolidate services and eliminate overlap.

How is Apostrophe effective?

Apostrophe used to be very effective for the treatment of common skin conditions due to their customized formulas. However, they ceased operations in early 2025. Fortunately, users can still get a prescription for their favorite formulas by having a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist on the Miiskin network.

Is Apostrophe a legitimate company?

Yes, Apostrophe was a legitimate company acquired by Hims and Hers who decided to shut down operations in early 2025. However, you can still get access to your favorite formulas via Miiskin.

Is Apostrophe tretinoin good?

Who owns Apostrophe skincare?

Apostrophe skincare was acquired by Hims and Hers and used to operate independently. However, earlier in 2025, they ceased operations, in order to simplify their dermatology offering.

Does Apostrophe ship internationally?

Apostrophe has now ceased operations in early 2025. However, if you are based in the United States, you can get access to your favorite Apostrophe blends via a consultation with an independent, board-certified dermatologist, via the Miiskin platform.

Which is better, Musely or Apostrophe?

Apostrophe is no longer in operations, so if you’re seeking an alternative to Musely, Miiskin is a suitable alternative. The platform connects you with board-certified dermatologists who prescribe customized skincare treatments, all through a secure, convenient, and fully asynchronous experience. With Miiskin’s provider-first model, dermatologists set their own fees, giving patients access to expert, personalized care without the high costs.

How much is Apostrophe skincare?

Apostrophe skincare has shut down, but when it was active, topical treatments typically cost around $75 for a three-month supply with a required quarterly subscription. With Miiskin, you can consult a board-certified dermatologist for just $59, and renew prescriptions for only $39—no subscriptions required. You’re free to fill your medication at any pharmacy you choose, giving you full control over your treatment and costs. Miiskin offers expert care, custom prescriptions, and the freedom to choose the best price for your skincare.

Is Apostrophe covered by insurance?

No, Apostrophe—which is now shut down—did not accept health insurance. If you’re looking for affordable dermatology care, Miiskin is a great alternative. It connects you with board-certified dermatologists for just $39 to $59 per consultation. Based on your needs and budget, the dermatologist can prescribe generic or compounded medications, giving you expert care without the high costs or insurance hassle.
