What are photo-based virtual consultations?

Photo-based virtual consultations are a convenient alternative if you want fast access to dermatological care and do not wish to speak with a healthcare provider in real-time.

Many common skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema, and other forms of rashes can be often managed through photo-based consultations. If your reported skin problem requires that you see a healthcare provider in person you will get this information as well so you can look up a dermatological provider in person.

In case of an emergency, please call 911.

FAQ

More questions and answers about photo-based virtual consultations.

What is the difference between a photo-based care request and a physical consultation?

The main difference between photo-based, virtual consultations and in-person care is how you interact with the provider. Photo-based consultations offer increased convenience and accessibility, allowing you to receive medical care from your own home. Virtual visits are adequate to evaluate many straight-forward skin conditions.rnrnIn-person visits allow a more detailed physical examination, which is necessary for some skin problems. If the provider is not comfortable treating you via a photo-based consultation you will be called for a physical examination.

How soon can I expect a response?

The response time for a photo-based virtual consultation can vary depending on the complexity of the case and the availability of the healthcare provider. Typically, you can expect a response within two working days. Virtual consultations should not be requested for emergencies or urgent medical conditions, as real-time interaction and examination are necessary in such cases. If you have a medical emergency dial 911.

How do I get a prescription?

Your healthcare provider will prescribe a medication electronically and you will be able to pick it up at the pharmacy you have selected in the Miiksin app. Virtual consultations may not be suitable for all skin conditions and not all medications can be prescribed during a photo-based consultation, for example, isotretinoin (Accutane) cannot be prescribed virtually.

What is a prescription refill photo consultation?

A prescription refill photo consultation is for example required for mandatory annual refill visits. It can also be used if there are no additional refills available on your prescription, and the provider will need to examine your condition before issuing new refills. If you have any questions about whether this option is needed for you, please call the office on: (612) 268-5005

Can I start a consultation for a minor?

It is currently not possible to request a consultation for a person under 18 through the Miiskin app as this requires a specialized consent. This feature is expected to come in late 2023.

What does it cost and when/how will I be charged?

Photo-based consultations can be reimbursed if you have insurance. When you start the consultation you will be asked to insert your insurance or credit card details.

Can I cover the consultation with my insurance plan?

Yes. Many insurance plans cover telemedicine visits.

Where can I ask further questions?
