What is Miiskin PRO?
Miiskin PRO is an asynchronous (store-and-forward) teledermatology platform that improves the workflow between patients and dermatologists as well as dermatology staff. It consists of a smartphone app for patients and a web portal for dermatologists and staff.
It allows patients to take photos of skin conditions, such as acne, moles, and dermatitis, and share them with you in a safe and convenient way. Along with the photos, patients are asked to answer a clinical questionnaire that helps them make safe medical decisions about the patient’s care. With this information, you can conduct an online review of the patient’s reported information to prioritize the patients who need urgent care, complete store-and-forward telehealth visits for medication refills, follow-up consultations, and better plan in-office care schedules by pre-examining patients before they come in.

Does telehealth replace all face-to-face visits?
No, but many types of visits can successfully be brought online for the delight of both the patient and provider. Many dermatologists consider that the most cost-efficient way to work is to have a mix between delivering in-person and virtual care. For example, you can use Miiskin PRO to triage patients and see who needs an urgent in-person consultation and who can be cared for by evaluating the images and patient-reported data virtually. You can also conduct virtual prescription renewal visits directly through the Miiskin PRO provider portal.
Is the Miiskin app free for patients?
There are no extra charges for patients attached to a clinic with a Miiskin PRO subscription. Depending on the patient’s insurance plan, you may need to charge a co-pay fee for telehealth visits the same way there is a co-pay fee for in-person visits. The skin tracking features of the app are provided to the patients at no extra charge.
Are telehealth visits covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies?
Yes, in many cases, telehealth visits are covered by private payers; however, this depends on the state, insurance company, and the health plan of each patient. We are so far however seeing that Medicare and Medicaid are reimbursing telehealthcare at a lower rate than what is supported through private insurance companies.
When patients submit a request for a virtual visit, they are asked to fill out their insurance information. Before reviewing their request, you or your staff can find out if the patient is eligible for a telehealth visit. If the patient is not suitable for a telehealth visit, the staff can schedule an in-person visit.
How do you keep my patient's data safe?
Miiskin is compliant with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for handling personal data and the United States’ Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for handling personally identifiable health information.
How can patients “skip the waiting line” with Miiskin PRO?
You can review all the patients’ requests that come through the Miiskin PRO provider portal. You can also click on each request, see the patient-reported information, and evaluate the images they have sent.
With this information, you can assess if a patient needs urgent care and should skip the waiting line. Through the provider portal, you can also identify all the straightforward cases that can be solved with an asynchronous virtual consultation.
How can Miiskin PRO be used for prescription renewal/refill visits?
According to regulations, if a patient is on a long-term prescription, they must have a consultation every six to 12 months depending on the state and medication. These “medication renewal visits” often do not need to occur at the clinic, which can otherwise be frustrating for patients, who just want to renew a prescription that is working for them.
Instead, the patient can request their prescription refill visit as a telehealth visit. This way, they can save the commute during working hours and skip sitting in the waiting room.
To request a prescription renewal, patients need to fill in a clinical questionnaire, which is customized for prescription refill visits and submit images of their skin condition for your visual examination. You can review this request when there is an opening in your schedule for example due to a no-show, and if everything seems okay, you can renew the prescription. In some cases, you may deem it necessary for the patient to come to the clinic before renewing the prescription.
How does skin monitoring with the Miiskin app work?
The app allows patients to take photos to document the appearance of their skin over time. This could be moles or skin lesions that the patient has been told by their provider to keep an eye on. It could also be a chronic skin condition that is being managed with treatment or a healing wound.
Patients in clinics with a Miiskin PRO subscription have access to the Miiskin app which has advanced skin monitoring features such as Face Tracking, Automatic Skin Imaging, Skin Mapping, and Mole Sizing. Read more about the Miiskin app’s patient skin monitoring features here.
Is it difficult to use the Miiskin PRO provider portal?
The Miiskin app and the Miiskin PRO provider portal are extremely easy to use. Both the Miiskin app and the Provider Portal have intuitive workflows that fit the needs of patients, dermatological providers, and office staff.
