What is the Miiskin platform ?
The Miiskin platform is an asynchronous (store-and-forward) teledermatology platform that connects patients with board-certified dermatologists in the United States, Mexico and India.
Through Miiskin, patients can request virtual dermatology care by submitting photos of their skin condition or hair loss problem, together with a clinical questionnaire and their personal details. Once a consultation request has been sent, the dermatologist will receive an email notification and will be able to review the patient’s case by logging in to the platform.
Once the dermatologist has reviewed the patient’s photos, symptoms and additional information, they can come up with a medical assessment and treatment plan for the patient and the system will notify the patient automatically.
The dermatologist will then write a prescription to the patient and the patient can purchase their medication at the local pharmacy. The dermatologist can also use the system to remind the patient to do a follow-up consultation a certain period after their initial consultation.
If a patient needs a medication renewal consultation they can do this through a dedicated photo consultation, which saves time and effort for patients and dermatologists.
Does telehealth replace all face-to-face visits?
No, it doesn’t. Many skin diseases may of course require further tests and require in-person appointments. However, many common skin conditions such as acne, melasma, hyperpigmentation, eczema, rosacea, fungal infections and other skin problems can often be assessed and treated via photo-consultations.
What is the price of the Miiskin platform for dermatologists?
The Miiskin platform doesn’t not involve a subscription model, instead Miiskin charges a usage-fee for each consultation facilitated via the platform. See Miiskin pricing here.
What is the price of the Miiskin platform for patients?
It is free for patients to use the Miiskin app’s basic version, however, they need to pay for the consultation price which is set by each dermatologist. Typical consultation prices set by the dermatologists on the platform currently vary between $59 to $69. Patients also need to pay for their medications separately.
Are telehealth visits covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies?
The consultations that are done via the Miiskin platform are paid out-of-pocket. However, in many cases the price for a photo-based consultation paid out of pocket is priced similarly to the copay a patient needs to pay for an in-person visit through their insurance company.
How do you keep my patient's data safe?
Miiskin is compliant with the United States’ Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for handling personally identifiable health information and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for handling personal data.
Can Miiskin be used for prescription renewals?
Yes, if a patient needs to renew their prescription, they can do it via Miiskin. They just need to answer some questions, upload photos of their skin or hair and enter the name of the prescription that they wish to renew. You can then review the patient’s request and if everything looks fine, you can renew their prescription so they can pick it up at the local pharmacy.
Is it difficult for doctors and staff to use the Miiskin platform ?
The Miiskin platform is extremely easy to use. Once you log in, you will be able to have an overview of all the patients requests, new and old. To view each individual request you just need to click on the “View request” button. After you do this you can see the detailed information of the patient and their photos. You can then provide your medical assessment, write documentation, write the treatment plan to the patient and click send. Once you have done this, the patient has a set amount of days to ask you questions in regards to their treatment via a Messaging Functionality in the platform. After the set days have expired, they can send additional questions for a small fee that you decide. After this has been done, you can download a PDF with the consultation info and upload it to your EHR if you have a 3rd party EHR system. That’s it! It is that simple! However, if you run into any problems, you can always send an email [email protected] for fast technical support.
