The Miiskin App General
What is the Miiskin app?
The Miiskin app helps patients in the United States, Mexico and India have a photo-based consultation with a board-certified dermatologist to receive affordable, high-quality dermatology care. You can use these photo consultations to request dermatology prescriptions and get a treatment plan for common skin problems such as acne, melasma, anti-aging, rosacea, eczema, rashes, fungal infections or other chronic skin conditions.
How does the Miiskin app work?
To get started receiving care through the Miiskin app you need to first go here to sign up with a dermatologist. After that you will be able to download the app and log in to answer a clinical questionnaire and take some photos of your skin. In some cases you may also be able to complete the first consultation with your dermatologist without needing to download the app.
If you want to try a specific medication, you should also write it down so your provider can create a digital prescription, if it is safe and adequate for you. After this, you need to enter your credit card information and accept the telehealth consents. In 80% of the cases, these consultations are reviewed the same day they are submitted, however, it can take up to 2 business days for a provider to review your case.
Who can use the Miiskin app for consultations?
Anyone in the United States who is over 18 years old can use the Miiskin app to have a consultation for common skin problems such as: anti-aging, acne, melasma, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infections, and other common skin problems.
What type of consultations can I do with my Miiskin account?
You can create a consultation request for a new skin or hair loss problem, a follow up consultation for an existing condition or a medication renewal consultation at a reduced price if you have had a previous prescription from the dermatologist that has expired.
What can I do if I need to ask a question to my dermatologist after they send my treatment plan?
You have 2-3 days to ask your dermatologist any questions after they have sent your treatment plan. You can do this by using the messaging system in the consultation you have with the dermatologist through the Miiskin system. After the 2-3 days have expired, you can open up correspondence again by paying a small fee (usually $25).
Can I use the Miiskin app to make a dermatology consultation for my children?
For the time being, it is generally not possible to do consultations for minors in the United States through Miiskin, with the exception of Burkhart Pediatric Dermatology Clinic in North Carolina.
Are Miiskin consultations covered by insurance?
No, consultations made viaMiiskin are not covered by your insurance. However the price for the virtual consultation (between $59 to $69) is often cheaper than copay you would need to pay if you visited an in-person dermatologist through your insurance (around $75).
Do I need a referral to see a Miiskin-affiliated dermatologist?
No, via Miiskin you can access a dermatologist without a referral. You just need to answer the questionnaire and submit photos of your skin to the dermatologist. You will get a medical assessment and a prescription if it’s medically appropriate in less than 2 business days.
With Miiskin’s innovative Skin Mapping feature, accessed through Web Compare, a computer identifies and highlights the moles and marks that it can find on the skin. This can make the process of comparing full-body and wide-area photos a lot easier as you will then have the skin maps to help you compare your base-line and follow-up photos.
With Mole Sizing you can put a coin in your close-up photos next to any mole or lesion you want to measure with millimeter precision to see if it changes size over time. Miiskin employs Augmented Reality to help you take Mole Sizing photos.
While most of the features mentioned above are included in Miiskin Premium, Miiskin does also offer a Miiskin Basic solution. You can see more about the Miiskin app and Miiskin Premium, as well as in the Miiskin FAQ section.
How is Miiskin different from other photo-based dermatology services?
The two main distinctions between Miiskin and other dermatology services available in the US are that Miiskin only uses board-certified dermatologists to do the consultations while in most services, consultations are offered by Primary Care Physicians, Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants. The other difference is that most dermatology services lock you in costly medication subscriptions, while with Miiskin you only buy new medication when you need it.
In what countries is the Miiskin service available?
At the moment you can consult a dermatologist via Miiskin in the United States, Mexico and India.
What is the price of photo-consultations via the Miiskin app?
Since the dermatologists affiliated to Miiskin have their own clinics, the prices can vary a bit depending on each clinic. However, consultation prices are usually between $59 to $69 in the United States.
