Miiskin Partners with The Skin Cancer Foundation to Help Promote Skin Cancer Early Detection
Denmark (January 23, 2020) – Miiskin, the leading skin self-examination app, has partnered with The Skin Cancer Foundation in an initiative to promote early detection and the importance of self-exams.
The Miiskin app was created to help people track moles and changes to their skin over time by storing digital photos. It provides reminders to routinely check for changes along with information about what to look for. In addition, the app assists users in tracking changes in the skin over time by allowing side-by-side image comparisons – helping people to identify differences, such as the appearance of a new mole or a change to an existing one. Miiskin does not diagnose skin cancer or tell users if they are at risk or not. People who notice changes are encouraged to seek advice from a dermatologist immediately.
“We are proud to be working with The Skin Cancer Foundation and excited about the lives we will be able to save together. The prevalence of skin cancer is increasing in the USA and around the world – yet the importance of regularly checking your skin for unusual changes or new spots is not widely acted upon nor easy to do. Technology can make self-examination more convenient – and is proving to be particularly useful for people with many moles who have difficulty keeping track of how their skin looks. By working with The Skin Cancer Foundation in the fight against the world’s most common cancer, we are bringing together their 40 years of expertise as a leader in skin cancer education and Miiskin’s digital innovation to promote skin self-examination and improve early detection of skin cancer .”
– Jon Friis, founder and CEO of Miiskin.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and worldwide. One in five Americans develop skin cancer by the age of 70, and more than two people die every hour from the disease. When caught and treated early, skin cancers are usually curable. That’s why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends adults perform monthly self-exams, in addition to visiting a dermatologist once a year, or more often if you are at a higher risk of skin cancer, for a full-body, professional skin exam.
“In the battle against skin cancer, early detection and prompt treatment can save lives. Mobile apps like Miiskin can be helpful tools while performing recommended self-exams, and can help monitor anything new, changing or unusual on the skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation appreciates Miiskin’s efforts to make skin cancer early detection a more intuitive process.”
– Dan Latore, executive director of The Skin Cancer Foundation.

About Miiskin
Miiskin was founded in Denmark by Jon Friis, who needed a better way to track the moles on his partner Rikke’s back to check for signs of Melanoma. When Jon was told by the doctor that current best practice was using pen and paper, he couldn’t help thinking that technology could simplify and improve this process.
The Miiskin app has already received over 450,000 downloads and hundreds of positive messages from users around the world.
Crucially, the app does not try to diagnose skin cancer or tell users that they are at risk or not. The detection of skin cancer is complex and should only be undertaken by qualified doctors – not apps. Miiskin helps you keep a regular eye on your skin, so you can seek medical help if you spot concerning changes.
Miiskin is available to download free from the App Store and Google Play. Subscription costs for premium features are $3.49/per month or $24.95/per year with 30-day free trial.
